UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80669: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Disable xfrmdecodesession hook attachment BPF LSM programs can currently attach to xfrmdecodesession(). That hook may return an error, but securityskbclassifyflow() calls it from a void path and triggers BUGON() if an error is returned. Disable BPF attachment to the hook to prevent a BPF LSM program from turning packet classification into a full panic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can exploit this issue?
Exploitation requires the ability to load or control a BPF LSM program and attach it to the xfrm_decode_session hook. The listed vector is local and requires high privileges.
What is the impact if exploitation succeeds?
A malicious BPF LSM program can cause packet classification to trigger a kernel BUG_ON(), resulting in a full system panic and loss of availability.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The affected software list includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What does the fix change?
The fix disables BPF LSM program attachment to the xfrm_decode_session hook, preventing an attached program from returning an error through the unsafe void call path.
