UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80676: Low severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Drivers: hv: vmbus: use generic driveroverride infrastructure When a driver is probed through driverattach(), the bus' match() callback is called without the device lock held, thus accessing the driveroverride field without a lock, which can cause a UAF. Fix this by using the driver-core driveroverride infrastructure taking care of proper locking internally. Note that calling match() from driverattach() without the device lock held is intentional. Frequently Asked Questions
What condition is required for this use-after-free to occur?
The issue occurs when VMBus probes a driver through __driver_attach() and the bus match callback accesses driver_override without the device lock held.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips, and ubuntu/linux-realtime.
What is the remediation described by the fix?
The fix changes VMBus to use the generic driver-core driver_override infrastructure, which handles the necessary locking internally.
