UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80680: High severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i2c: amd-mp2: Unregister callback on adapter add failure amdmp2registercb() stores the platform I2C context in the MP2 PCI driver's callback table before the adapter is registered. If i2caddadapter() fails, probe returns and devres frees the context, but the PCI driver can still dereference the stale pointer from its IRQ and system-sleep callbacks. Unregister the callback before returning the adapter registration error.

Unregister the callback before returning the i2c_add_adapter() registration error, so the MP2 PCI driver cannot dereference the devres-freed platform I2C context from IRQ or system-sleep callbacks.
Linux kernel i2c: amd-mp2 MP2 PCI driver callback registration on adapter-add failure = unregister callback

Frequently Asked Questions
What condition is required to trigger the stale pointer use?
The AMD MP2 I2C adapter registration must fail in i2c_add_adapter() after amd_mp2_register_cb() has stored the platform I2C context in the MP2 PCI driver's callback table.
Which execution paths can access the freed context after the failure?
The MP2 PCI driver's IRQ callbacks and system-sleep callbacks can still dereference the stale context pointer after probe returns and devres frees it.
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-oracle.
