UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80694: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: ethernet: mtkethsoc: pass eth to mtkhandleirqrx in pollcontroller mtkhandleirqrx expects a struct mtketh (matching the requestirq cookie), but mtkpollcontroller incorrectly passed the netdevice . Calling ndopollcontroller with CONFIGNETPOLLCONTROLLER enabled would then crash.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Exposure requires the MediaTek Ethernet mtk_eth_soc driver and CONFIG_NET_POLL_CONTROLLER to be enabled. The affected Ubuntu kernel packages listed are linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-oracle.
What access or conditions are required to trigger the crash?
The supplied CVSS vector indicates local access, low privileges, and additional attack conditions are required; no user interaction is required. The crash occurs when ndo_poll_controller is called while CONFIG_NET_POLL_CONTROLLER is enabled.
How can I determine whether a system is potentially affected?
Check whether the running kernel has CONFIG_NET_POLL_CONTROLLER enabled and whether the system uses the mtk_eth_soc MediaTek Ethernet driver. Systems without either condition are not exposed to the described crash path.
