UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80737: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: serial: amba-pl011: synchronize DMA teardown dmaengineterminateall() does not wait for a running callback, so the TX callback can still touch the TX buffer after it is freed. The RX poll timer reads the RX buffers without the port lock. Switch to dmaengineterminatesync() and delete the RX timer before freeing the buffers.

ubuntu/linux-riscvto a version that resolves this vulnerability.Fixed in 7.0.0-42.42.1 - Compensating control
In serial: amba-pl011 DMA teardown, replace dmaengine_terminate_all() with dmaengine_terminate_sync() so teardown waits for a running TX callback before the TX buffer is freed.
- Compensating control
Delete the RX poll timer before freeing the RX buffers, because the timer reads RX buffers without holding the port lock.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are potentially exposed when the AMBA PL011 serial driver uses DMA. Exploitation requires local access with low privileges; no user interaction is required.
What condition triggers the vulnerability?
The issue occurs during DMA teardown in the PL011 serial driver. A transmit DMA callback may continue accessing a TX buffer after it has been freed, and an RX polling timer may read RX buffers without the port lock.
What does the fix change?
The resolved code uses dmaengine_terminate_sync() so DMA teardown waits for running callbacks, and removes the RX timer before freeing receive buffers. This prevents concurrent access to freed or insufficiently synchronized buffers.
