UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80830: Race Condition
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: core: Add lock to usbwakeupnotification() Add a spin lock to usbwakeup notification to prevent a race condition with dereferencing freed memory. This could be hit by the xHCI driver as it calls this function from an IRQ and could race with the hubdisconnect() function, which properly grabs this lock to protect the state of the device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What conditions are required for the race to occur?
The race involves usb_wakeup_notification() being called by the xHCI driver from an interrupt context while hub_disconnect() runs concurrently. The unsafe condition is dereferencing device state after it has been freed.
What change resolves the issue?
The resolved kernel change adds a spin lock to usb_wakeup_notification(). This synchronizes it with hub_disconnect(), which already takes the lock to protect device state.
