UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80883: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/tegra: gr2d/gr3d: Initialize address register map before HOST1X client is registered The host1xclientregister() function is called just prior to register map initialization loop, making the device available to userspace. This may result in userspace attempting to submits a job before the register map is initialized. Address this by moving register initialization before host1x client registration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems using an affected Ubuntu kernel package with the Tegra DRM gr2d/gr3d driver are exposed when the device becomes available to userspace. Exploitation requires local access with low privileges.
What does an attacker need to do to trigger the vulnerability?
An attacker needs to submit a gr2d/gr3d job from userspace during the window after the HOST1X client is registered but before the address register map has been initialized. No user interaction is required.
What is the potential impact?
The supplied severity vector indicates high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability within the vulnerable system. The vulnerability is locally exploitable and requires low privileges.
