UBUNTU-CVE-2026-89510: High severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/cxgb4: Cancel regwork before freeing device on remove c4iwuldstatechange() queues regwork to register the RDMA device. c4iwremove() can free ctx->dev while this work is pending or running, leaving c4iwregisterdevice() accessing the freed device. Cancel regwork before removing the device. The registration work can tear down ctx->dev when registration fails, so do not unregister or deallocate it again in that case. This issue was found by an in-house static analysis tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The issue affects the listed Ubuntu Linux kernel packages, including linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-oracle. Exploitation requires local access and low privileges.
What condition triggers the vulnerable use-after-free?
The RDMA cxgb4 driver's registration work, reg_work, must be queued while device removal occurs. If removal frees ctx->dev before the queued or running registration work is cancelled, c4iw_register_device() can access the freed device.
What is the security impact if exploited?
The supplied severity vector rates the issue High at 7.8, with high impacts to confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The vector indicates exploitation is local, requires low privileges, and does not require user interaction.
What does the fix change?
The fix cancels reg_work before removing the device, preventing registration work from accessing a freed device. It also avoids unregistering or deallocating ctx->dev again when registration failure has already torn it down.
