UBUNTU-CVE-2026-89594: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hsi: omapssicore: fix missing DMA mask setup for SSI controller device The OMAP SSI driver uses a synthetic HSI controller device allocated via hsialloccontroller(), which does not go through the normal OF/platform device initialization path. As a result, the embedded struct device does not have a DMA mask initialized by default. After recent DMA API hardening changes, dmamapsg() and related helpers now require a valid dmamask to be present, otherwise the driver may crash or trigger warnings when attempting DMA mapping operations. Fix this by explicitly initializing the DMA mask for the SSI controller device and setting a 32-bit DMA mask, which matches the hardware capabilities.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems using an OMAP SSI controller with the affected driver are the relevant exposure. The issue is associated with Ubuntu Linux kernel packages including linux, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-riscv, and linux-gkeop.
What conditions are needed to trigger the problem?
The affected OMAP SSI driver must attempt DMA mapping operations, such as dma_map_sg(), on its synthetic HSI controller device. A local attacker with low privileges is reflected in the supplied vector, but the description does not identify a specific user-controlled trigger.
What is the likely effect if the issue is triggered?
DMA mapping may crash the driver or produce warnings because the controller device lacks an initialized DMA mask. The supplied severity vector rates confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts as high.
Is there a configuration workaround if patching cannot happen immediately?
The provided data does not specify a workaround. The underlying fix initializes a 32-bit DMA mask for the SSI controller device, matching the hardware capability.
