UBUNTU-CVE-2026-89742: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rapidio: mportcdev: fix use-after-free in dmareqfree() dmareqfree() acquires bufmutex through req->map, drops the mapping reference with krefput(), and then dereferences req->map again to unlock the mutex. If krefput() drops the last reference, mportreleasemapping() frees the mapping, and the subsequent mutexunlock() dereferences a freed object. This is a use-after-free. Fix this by caching map and md before krefput(), clearing req->map while holding bufmutex, and using the cached md for mutex unlocking. The bug is reachable from userspace via the RapidIO mport character device interface.

In dma_req_free(), cache req->map and md before calling kref_put(), clear req->map while holding buf_mutex, and use the cached md when unlocking the mutex so a freed mapping is not dereferenced.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are potentially exposed if the RapidIO mport character device interface is available to local users. The vulnerability is reachable from userspace, and the vector requires local access with low privileges.
What could a successful exploit allow?
The issue is a use-after-free in the RapidIO DMA request cleanup path. The supplied CVSS vector indicates potential high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
What conditions are required for exploitation?
An attacker needs local access and low privileges; no user interaction is required. Exploitation involves reaching the RapidIO mport character device interface and triggering the affected DMA request free path.
How is the flaw fixed?
The fix caches the mapping and mutex data before dropping the mapping reference, clears req->map while the buffer mutex is held, and uses the cached mutex data for unlocking. This prevents dereferencing the mapping after its final reference can free it.
