UBUNTU-CVE-2026-89888: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: i2c: ov02a10: fix endpoint parsing use-after-free The ov02a10checkhwcfg() function calls fwnodehandleput(ep) immediately after allocating and parsing the endpoint. However, it subsequently calls fwnodepropertyreadu32() using the same 'ep' handle, leading to a potential use-after-free. Additionally, reading the optional 'ovti,mipi-clock-voltage' property used to overwrite the 'ret' variable. If the property was missing, 'ret' would become negative, and this failure code would be incorrectly returned at the end of the function, causing probe to fail entirely. Fix the use-after-free by moving fwnodepropertyreadu32() before the endpoint is parsed and freed. Avoid the error leak by not assigning the result of fwnodepropertyreadu32() to 'ret'.

In the Linux kernel media i2c ov02a10 driver, update ov02a10_check_hwcfg() so fwnode_property_read_u32() reads 'ovti,mipi-clock-voltage' before the endpoint handle is parsed and freed, and do not assign its return value to 'ret' so a missing property does not incorrectly cause probe failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected software list includes Ubuntu linux, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-riscv, and linux-gkeop kernel packages. Exposure is specifically associated with the ov02a10 media I2C driver and its hardware-configuration endpoint handling.
What conditions are needed to trigger the flaw?
An attacker needs local access and low privileges, as reflected by the supplied CVSS vector. The vulnerable path involves the driver reading firmware-node endpoint configuration and then accessing an endpoint handle after it has been released.
Can this also cause the camera driver to fail to initialize?
Yes. If the optional ovti,mipi-clock-voltage property is absent, the previous code could propagate that missing-property error and cause device probing to fail entirely.
What code behavior was changed by the fix?
The fix reads the optional ovti,mipi-clock-voltage property before the endpoint is parsed and released. It also prevents the optional property read result from overwriting the function return status.
