UBUNTU-CVE-2026-89914: Critical severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability

Published Sep 16, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: arm64: Sign-extend VA for range-based TLBI invalidation When the decoderangetlbi() helper was moved to be used for S1 TLBIs, the required sign extension was omitted. Add it. As a result, special care must be taken to not overflow PA bits when this is used for S2 invalidation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which systems should be prioritized for assessment?

Prioritize Ubuntu hosts using KVM on arm64, as the flaw is in KVM arm64 handling of range-based TLB invalidation. The affected software list includes ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, and ubuntu/linux-aws-5.0.

2

What level of access does an attacker need?

The supplied vector indicates local attack access, low attack complexity, no privileges required, and no user interaction. It also indicates high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact, with scope changed.

3

Does the available information identify fixed package versions or a temporary mitigation?

No fixed package versions, configuration workaround, or temporary mitigation is provided in the available data. Use the Ubuntu security advisory and the referenced upstream kernel commit when validating remediation status.
