UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90025: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: typec: ucsi: displayport: Fix OOB altmode array index The UCSI displayport driver indexes the connector's port altmode array with the GETCURRENTCAM response after checking it is not 0xff. The port altmode array is UCSIMAXALTMODES elements long. If the PPM returns an invalid GETCURRENTCAM response above UCSIMAXALTMODES and not equal to 0xff, the kernel may crash with an array index OOB error. Update the UCSI displayport driver to verify the current cam is less than UCSIMAXALTMODES before accessing the port altmode array.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems running the affected Ubuntu Linux kernel packages are exposed when the UCSI DisplayPort driver processes a GET_CURRENT_CAM response from a USB Type-C connector's PPM. The listed packages include ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips, and ubuntu/linux-realtime.
What must occur for the kernel to crash?
The PPM must return a GET_CURRENT_CAM value that is not 0xff but is greater than or equal to UCSI_MAX_ALTMODES. The vulnerable driver then uses that invalid value as an index into the port altmode array, causing an out-of-bounds access that may crash the kernel.
Is there a documented workaround if an updated kernel cannot be deployed immediately?
No workaround is provided in the available data. The described fix is to update the UCSI DisplayPort driver so it verifies that the current CAM value is less than UCSI_MAX_ALTMODES before indexing the altmode array.
