UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90062: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nftables: move hardware offload step after building the chain blob Allocate the chain blob before the ruleset offload to reduce chances of entering an inconsistent state where the offloaded ruleset in the nic and the software ruleset differ.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are potentially affected if they use nftables/netfilter rules with hardware offload to a NIC. The issue requires local access and low privileges, as reflected by the CVSS vector.
What does an attacker need to exploit it?
An attacker needs local access with low privileges. No user interaction is required; the vulnerability concerns a failure path that can leave NIC-offloaded rules and the software ruleset inconsistent.
What is the potential impact?
The reported impact is high integrity and availability impact, with no confidentiality impact. An inconsistent hardware and software ruleset could affect enforcement of network filtering rules or system availability.
What change resolves the inconsistency risk?
The fix allocates the nftables chain blob before offloading the ruleset to hardware. This reduces the chance that the NIC receives an offloaded ruleset while the corresponding software ruleset is not successfully built.
