UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90196: Low severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: SOF: validate topology volume range before allocation SOF treats the topology mixer min and max values as non-negative indices into its volume table. It stores them in signed fields, allocates max + 1 entries through an int argument, and later indexes the table with the stored range. An inverted range is invalid, while a maximum at or above INTMAX cannot be represented safely after the increment or in the signed fields. Validate the complete range before storing it or allocating the table.

In ASoC SOF topology handling, validate the complete mixer volume range before storing it or allocating the volume table; reject inverted ranges and any maximum at or above INT_MAX.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips, and ubuntu/linux-realtime.
What malformed input condition triggers the issue?
The issue involves an SOF topology mixer volume range that is inverted, or whose maximum value is at least INT_MAX. Such values cannot be safely stored, incremented for allocation, or used as indices into the volume table.
