UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90225: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfc: llcp: read llcpsock->local under the socket lock in getsockopt nfcllcpgetsockopt() read llcpsock->local before locksock(sk) and then dereferenced the cached pointer inside the locked region. llcpsockbind() assigns and clears llcpsock->local under the same socket lock, dropping the last reference on its error path. A getsockopt() racing an in-flight bind() can observe the pointer, block on locksock(), and then dereference a freed nfcllcplocal once bind() has unwound. Move the llcpsock->local read and the NULL check inside the locksock(sk) region so bind() cannot mutate or free the pointer between the load and the use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu Linux kernel package variants are potentially affected when NFC LLCP sockets are used. Exploitation requires a local attacker with low privileges.
What conditions are needed to trigger the flaw?
An attacker must create a race between getsockopt() on an NFC LLCP socket and an in-flight bind() operation on that socket. The vulnerable path involves llcp_sock_bind() clearing or freeing the local NFC LLCP state while getsockopt() uses a previously observed pointer.
What is the potential impact?
The race can cause a use-after-free of an nfc_llcp_local object. The reported severity vector indicates potential compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
How can I determine whether a system may be affected?
Check whether the system runs an Ubuntu kernel from one of the listed package families and whether NFC LLCP functionality is in use. The provided data does not include fixed package versions.
