UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90274: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: coresight: etm4x: fix underflow for usage of (nrseqstate - 1) According to IHI006H Embedded Trace Macrocell Architecture Specification[0], TRCSEQEVR<n> is implemented only when TRCIDR5.NUMSEQSTATE is 0b100, in which case n ranges from 0 to 2; otherwise, TRCIDR5.NUMSEQSTATE is 0b000. IOW, the number of usage in the initialisation or setting TRCSEQEVR<n> with drvdata->nrseqstate - 1 in the loop could make underflow issue when TRCIDR5.NUMSEQSTATE is 0b000. Therefore, introduce nrseqctrls field and untie it from nrseqstate. As part of this introduce ETMMAXSEQTRANSITIONS macro and apply nrseqctrls and above macro to TRCSEQEVR<n> relevant fields setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and the corresponding FIPS variants: ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What hardware condition triggers the underflow?
The issue occurs when the ETM TRCIDR5.NUMSEQSTATE field is 0b000. In that configuration, sequence-event registers are not implemented, but code using nrseqstate - 1 can underflow during initialization or setup of TRCSEQEVR fields.
What does the upstream fix change?
The fix introduces a separate nr_seq_ctrls field so sequence-control setup is no longer derived from nrseqstate. It also adds an ETM_MAX_SEQ_TRANSITIONS limit for setup of fields related to TRCSEQEVR<n>.
