UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90285: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: qla2xxx: Remove redundant VPD flash read in sysfs read path qla2x00sysfsreadvpd() called ha->ispops->readoptrom() a second time after releasing optrommutex. The repeated read is redundant and, unlike the first, runs without optrommutex held, exposing flash access to concurrent optrom operations. Drop the duplicate call.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected Ubuntu kernel packages listed are linux, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, and linux-realtime. The vulnerable code is in the qla2xxx SCSI driver, so exposure depends on use of that driver and its sysfs VPD read path.
What conditions are needed to trigger the race?
The issue requires qla2x00_sysfs_read_vpd() to perform its redundant second flash read while optrom_mutex is no longer held. Concurrent optrom operations must access the flash during that unlocked read.
How can I tell whether a system is affected?
Check whether the running or installed Ubuntu kernel belongs to one of the listed package families and includes the qla2xxx driver. The provided data does not identify fixed package versions, so kernel version status cannot be determined from this information alone.
