UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90327: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: phonet: pep: do not write beyond optlen in getsockopt pepgetsockopt() clamps the reported length to the caller's buffer with mint(), but then stores the value with putuser(val, (int user ) optval), which always writes sizeof(int) bytes. A getsockopt() call with an optlen smaller than sizeof(int) thus reports the clamped length yet writes a full int, one to three bytes past the user buffer. Write the value with copytouser() bounded by len, so at most optlen bytes are copied, matching the length reported back to userspace.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What is required to trigger the out-of-bounds write?
A caller must invoke getsockopt() for the Phonet PEP implementation with an optlen value smaller than sizeof(int). The code reports the shortened length but writes a full integer, overrunning the supplied user buffer by one to three bytes.
