UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90378: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mt76: mt792x: Fix memory leak in SDIO TX path When txprepareskb() returns an error in the SDIO TX path, the skb is not freed, leading to a memory leak. This can occur when zero-length frames (such as WNM NULL frames) are dropped to prevent potential hardware TX hangs. Fix this by properly releasing the skb with ieee80211txstatusext() when txprepareskb() fails.

When tx_prepare_skb() returns an error, properly release the skb with ieee80211_tx_status_ext(), including for dropped zero-length frames such as WNM NULL frames.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems using the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are affected only in the MT792x Wi-Fi driver's SDIO transmit path. The issue is tied to dropped zero-length frames, including WNM NULL frames.
What is required to trigger the memory leak?
The SDIO transmit path must call tx_prepare_skb() and receive an error. A documented trigger is a zero-length frame that is dropped to avoid a potential hardware transmit hang.
What is the impact if the issue is triggered repeatedly?
Each affected transmit failure can leave an skb unfreed, causing a kernel memory leak. The provided data does not quantify the rate of memory consumption or resulting system impact.
