UBUNTU-CVE-2026-90412: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability

Published Sep 17, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nvmet: fix return status of RMI log page on allocation failure nvmetexecutegetlogpagermi() leaves 'status' holding NVMESCSUCCESS (set by the successful nvmetreqfindns() call) when the kzalloc() for the log buffer fails. It then jumps to the out label and completes the request with a success status, so the host is told the command succeeded while no data was transferred. Initialize 'status' to NVMESCINTERNAL, matching the smart log handler, so an allocation failure is reported as an internal error.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What condition is required to trigger the incorrect success response?

The NVMe target must process an RMI log-page request, successfully find the namespace, and then fail to allocate the log buffer with kzalloc(). Under that allocation-failure condition, the vulnerable code reports success even though no log data was transferred.

2

What is the operational impact of this issue?

A host can be told that an RMI log-page command completed successfully when the target transferred no data. This can cause the host to treat missing log-page data as a successful result rather than receiving an internal error.

3

Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?

The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, and ubuntu/linux-aws-5.0.
