UBUNTU-CVE-2026-92508: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/core: Fix potential use after free in ibfreecq() When accessing a CQ via the netlink path the only synchronization mechanism for the said CQ is rdmarestrackget(). Currently, rdmarestrackdel() is invoked at the end of ibfreecq(), which is too late, since by that point vendor-specific resources associated with the CQ might already be freed. This can leave a short window where the CQ remains accessible through restrack, leading to a potential use-after-free. Fix this by moving the rdmarestrackdel() call to be before the freeing of the vendor-specific resources ensuring that the CQ is removed from restrack before its internal resources are released. This guarantees that no new users hold references to a CQ that is in the process of destruction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What access does an attacker need to exploit this issue?
The reported CVSS vector requires local access and low privileges, with no user interaction. Exploitation involves accessing an RDMA completion queue through the netlink path while that queue is being destroyed.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What condition creates the use-after-free window?
The window occurs when a completion queue remains available through RDMA resource tracking after vendor-specific resources for that queue have already been freed. A concurrent netlink-path user can then obtain a reference to a queue in destruction.
What does the fix change?
The fix removes the completion queue from RDMA resource tracking before freeing its vendor-specific resources. This prevents new users from obtaining references to a completion queue that is being destroyed.
