UBUNTU-CVE-2026-93102: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/hfi1: Free RX data on late probe failure hfi1initdd() allocates the shared AIP/VNIC RX support before returning. If hfi1init() or hfi1registeribdevice() later fails, initone() tears down the device data without calling hfi1freerx(). This leaks netdevrx and its dummy netdev. Free the RX support after IB unregistration and before postinitcleanup(), as done on normal device removal.

Ensure init_one() calls hfi1_free_rx() after IB unregistration and before postinit_cleanup(), including when hfi1_init() or hfi1_register_ib_device() fails, to release the shared AIP/VNIC RX support, netdev_rx, and its dummy netdev.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
When can this issue occur?
It occurs when RX support has been allocated during HFI1 device probing, followed by a later failure in hfi1_init() or hfi1_register_ib_device(). The affected cleanup path then omits hfi1_free_rx(), leaking netdev_rx and its dummy network device.
What systems are in scope?
Ubuntu packages listed as affected include linux, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-riscv, and linux-gkeop. The description specifically concerns the Linux kernel HFI1 RDMA driver.
How is the leak corrected?
The resolved code frees RX support after InfiniBand device unregistration and before postinit_cleanup(). This aligns late probe-failure cleanup with the normal device-removal path.
