UBUNTU-CVE-2026-93109: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/mlx5: Drain RCU callbacks during module teardown devxfreesubscription() can remain queued after the last DevX event file drops its module reference or an auxiliary driver detaches its devices. mlx5ib can then unload before the callback runs. Registration error unwind has the same risk because driver registration can attach existing devices before failing. Wait after all drivers have stopped.

During mlx5_ib module teardown, wait for and drain RCU callbacks after all drivers have stopped, including during registration-error unwind, before unloading the module.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems should be prioritized for triage?
Prioritize systems running the listed Ubuntu kernel packages where RDMA mlx5 functionality, DevX event files, or mlx5 auxiliary-driver device attachment and detachment are in use. The provided information does not establish that systems without these conditions are affected.
What conditions can trigger the unsafe teardown path?
The condition can occur when the last DevX event file drops its module reference, when an auxiliary driver detaches its devices, or during registration-error cleanup after drivers may already have attached existing devices. In these cases, an RCU callback can remain queued while mlx5_ib is unloading.
Is a non-patch workaround or default-configuration impact documented?
No interim mitigation or default-configuration impact is provided. The documented resolution is to wait for RCU callbacks only after all drivers have stopped.
