UBUNTU-CVE-2026-93117: Low severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability

Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: fix UAF when probe runs concurrent to dyn ID removal Dynamic IDs are only guaranteed to be valid when usbdynidslock is held, as removeidstore can free the node. Thus, make a copy in usbprobeinterface. Clarify the documentation that the id parameter is only valid during the probe. USB serial has the same pattern, but it does not need fixing as the IDs cannot be removed via sysfs.

Upgrade ubuntu/linux-riscv to a version that resolves this vulnerability.

    Fixed in 7.0.0-42.42.1
  10. Compensating control

In the Linux kernel USB core, make a copy of the dynamic ID in usb_probe_interface before using it, because the ID is only valid while usb_dynids_lock is held and remove_id_store may free the node.

  11. Compensating control

Clarify the documentation that the id parameter is valid only during the probe.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What conditions are required to trigger this issue?

A USB interface probe must run concurrently with removal of a dynamic USB ID through sysfs. The affected ID can be freed during this race, leaving the probe path with an invalid reference.

2

Which Ubuntu kernel package variants are listed as affected?

The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
