UBUNTU-CVE-2026-93160: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: atmel-ecc - reject hardware ECDH without a public key The hardware ECDH path in atmelecdhcomputesharedsecret() uses the private key stored in the device. However, the public key is cached only after atmelecdhsetsecret() successfully generated that private key for the current tfm. atmelecdhgeneratepublickey() already rejects requests when no public key is cached. Add the same check to atmelecdhcomputesharedsecret() to prevent the device from using a private key that was not generated for the current tfm.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems using the Linux kernel's Atmel ECC hardware ECDH implementation are relevant. The affected Ubuntu kernel package set listed includes linux, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-oracle, and the listed AWS, Azure, GCP, and generic FIPS kernel variants.
What condition is required for exploitation?
An ECDH shared-secret operation must reach the Atmel hardware path without a public key cached for the current cryptographic transform. In that state, the device may use a private key that was not generated for the current transform.
Does this affect all ECDH implementations in the kernel?
The provided information identifies the Atmel ECC hardware ECDH path, specifically atmel_ecdh_compute_shared_secret(). It does not indicate that software ECDH or other hardware drivers are affected.
What does the fix change?
The fix makes atmel_ecdh_compute_shared_secret() reject requests when no public key is cached, matching the existing validation in atmel_ecdh_generate_public_key(). This prevents use of a device private key not generated for the current transform.
