UBUNTU-CVE-2026-93204: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: batman-adv: dat: atomically update mac addresses When a MAC address is updated in batadvdatentryadd(), it is done using a simple copy function. A parallel reader might only see parts of this update. In worst case, the reader is transporting the half updated MAC address over the network or is creating an ARP response using it - poisoning the ARP cache. atomic64t can be used to store the 48 bit of a mac address. A reader will then either see the old mac address or the new one - never a mixture of both.

In batman-adv's batadv_dat_entry_add(), store the 48-bit MAC address using atomic64_t so readers see either the old or new address atomically, never a partially updated address.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
Does the issue depend on concurrent activity?
Yes. The problem occurs when a MAC address update in batadv_dat_entry_add() races with a parallel reader, which could observe a partially updated address rather than either the old or new address.
