UBUNTU-CVE-2026-93213: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: of: fix out-of-bounds read in ofaliasscan() stem parser The stem parser tests isdigit((end - 1)) before checking end > start and so reads one byte before the property name when the name is empty or all digits. Check the bound first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What input condition triggers the out-of-bounds read?
The issue is triggered when the device-tree alias stem parser handles a property name that is empty or consists entirely of digits. It evaluates the byte before the start of the property name before confirming that the parser has not reached the beginning.
Is this issue resolved upstream?
Yes. The vulnerability description states that it has been resolved by checking the parser bound before testing whether the preceding character is a digit.
