UBUNTU-CVE-2026-93234: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/gud: validate TV mode names before creating enum property The GUD protocol returns TV mode names as fixed-size GUDCONNECTORTVMODENAMELEN entries and requires each name to be NUL-terminated. gudconnectoraddtvmode() currently passes each fixed-size entry directly to drmmodecreatetvpropertieslegacy(), which eventually reaches drmpropertyaddenum() and strlen(). If a device returns an entry without a terminating NUL byte, strlen() reads past the end of the slot and can run beyond the allocated buffer, triggering an out-of-bounds read. Validate that each returned TV mode name contains a NUL terminator within its fixed-size slot before passing it to the DRM property code. If a malformed entry is found, reject the device response with -EIO. This fixes the out-of-bounds read without changing the handling of valid devices, and avoids silently truncating malformed protocol data.

Validate each returned GUD TV mode name for a NUL terminator within its fixed-size GUD_CONNECTOR_TV_MODE_NAME_LEN slot before passing it to DRM property code; if any entry lacks a terminator, reject the device response with -EIO.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are potentially affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop. Exposure requires interaction with a GUD device that provides TV mode names.
What condition is required to trigger the issue?
A GUD device must return a fixed-size TV mode-name entry that lacks a NUL terminator within that entry. The vulnerable code can then read beyond the entry while determining the name length.
How does the resolved code handle malformed device responses?
It validates that every returned TV mode name has a NUL terminator within its fixed-size slot. If any entry is malformed, the response is rejected with -EIO rather than being passed to DRM property handling.
