UBUNTU-CVE-2026-93811: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: Fix acl.sdbuf memory leak and invalid sdsize error handling 1. When ndrdecodev4ntacl() fails, the code jumped to freendata which only freed n.data, skipping kfree(acl.sdbuf) and leaking the buffer. Zero-initialize struct xattrntacl acl, reorder error labels to outfree to release acl.sdbuf on all error paths. 2. if (acl.sdsize < sizeof(struct smbntsd)) is true, original code returned success without freeing sdbuf and left stale pntsd. Set rc = -EINVAL before jumping to outfree to return error code and free buffer.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger the issue?
The vulnerable paths are reached when ksmbd processes NT ACL data and ndr_decode_v4_ntacl() fails, or when the decoded ACL security descriptor size is smaller than sizeof(struct smb_ntsd). The provided information does not specify the source of the ACL data or any required attacker privileges.
What happens when the malformed ACL size condition is encountered?
The affected code can return success despite acl.sd_size being too small, leak acl.sd_buf, and leave the caller's *pntsd value stale. The corrected behavior returns -EINVAL and releases the buffer.
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
