Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems using the affected Ubuntu Linux kernel packages are exposed when an SPI device is used with driver_override and the selected driver has no matching SPI ID entry. The listed packages include linux, linux-fips, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-gcp, and their listed FIPS variants.
What condition is required to trigger the crash?
spi_get_device_id() must return NULL during spi_get_device_match_data(). The described condition is use of driver_override without a matching SPI ID entry, which can lead to a NULL pointer dereference.
How can I determine whether this is relevant in my environment?
Review SPI device configurations for use of driver_override and verify that each overridden driver has a corresponding SPI ID entry. Environments not using this driver_override scenario are not described as triggering the issue.
