UBUNTU-CVE-2026-97434: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dpaa2-switch: fix handling of NAPI on the remove path All the NAPI instances for a DPSW device are attached to the first switch port's netdevice but shared by all ports. The NAPI instances get disabled only once the last port goes down. This causes an issue on the .remove() path where each port is unregistered and freed one at a time, causing the NAPI instances to be deleted even though they are not disabled. In order to avoid this, split up the unregisternetdev() calls from the freenetdev() so that we make sure all ports go down before we attempt a deletion of NAPI instances. Also, make the netifnapidel() explicit as it is on the .probe() path.

In the dpaa2-switch remove path, split unregister_netdev() calls from free_netdev() so all ports are brought down before deleting NAPI instances, and make netif_napi_del() explicit as it is on the .probe() path.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The issue affects Ubuntu kernel packages listed as linux, linux-fips, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-gcp-fips when using the DPAA2 switch driver and removing a DPSW device.
What condition triggers the vulnerable path?
The problem occurs during device removal, when switch ports are unregistered and freed one at a time while NAPI instances are shared across ports and have not yet been disabled.
What can be done if an updated kernel cannot be deployed immediately?
Avoid removing affected DPSW devices or unloading the relevant driver while the system is running. This avoids the remove path in which NAPI instances can be deleted before they are disabled.
