UBUNTU-CVE-2026-97510: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: thunderbolt: Release request if tbcfgrequest() fails in tbxdomainresponse() If tbcfgrequest() fails setting up the request (for example the control channel is shut down already) it returns an error without calling the callback. To avoid leaking that memory, call tbcfgrequestput() if tbcfgrequest() fails.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What condition causes the memory leak?
The leak occurs when tb_cfg_request() fails while setting up a request in the cross-domain response path and therefore does not invoke its callback. One cited example is that the Thunderbolt control channel has already been shut down.
