UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98078: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipvs: fix reversed sequence option serialization htonseq() expects the host-order source first and the unaligned network-order destination second. The version 1 sync sender passes these arguments in reverse for both sequence blocks. This leaves 24 bytes of the kmalloc-backed message unwritten. It may disclose stale heap data and replace the live connection sequence state with values read from the buffer. Pass the connection sequence state as the source and the message payload as the destination for both blocks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package variants are in scope?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What deployment condition makes this relevant?
The issue is in the IPVS version 1 sync sender. Systems not using that sender are not described as exercising the vulnerable serialization path.
Does exploitation require user interaction or affect another security scope?
The supplied vector indicates no user interaction is required and that scope is unchanged. It also indicates local access with low privileges is required.
