UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98148: Low severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability

Published Sep 25, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/gud: validate GUDROTATION0 is present in supported rotations The rotation argument to drmplanecreaterotationproperty() is set to DRMMODEROTATE0, and the device reported rotation bitmask is used as the supportedrotations argument. The driver never validates that GUDROTATION0 is present, so a device that omits it from its GUDPROPERTYROTATION triggers the WARNON(rotation & ~supportedrotations) in drmplanecreaterotationproperty() Fix this by skipping the creation of rotation property if the device doesn't have the GUDROTATION0 bit

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which systems are exposed to this issue?

The issue applies to the listed Ubuntu kernel packages when a GUD device reports a rotation property that does not include the GUD_ROTATION_0 bit. Systems not using such a device configuration are not described as triggering the condition.

2

What is required to trigger the problem?

A GUD device must provide a GUD_PROPERTY_ROTATION bitmask that omits GUD_ROTATION_0. The driver then attempts to create a rotation property with DRM_MODE_ROTATE_0, causing a WARN_ON because that rotation is outside the device-reported supported rotations.

3

How can I identify whether the condition has occurred?

Check for the WARN_ON in drm_plane_create_rotation_property() when a GUD device is initialized or its rotation property is created. Also inspect the device-reported GUD_PROPERTY_ROTATION bitmask for absence of GUD_ROTATION_0.

4

What can be done before an updated kernel is available?

Avoid using or attaching GUD devices whose reported rotation capabilities omit GUD_ROTATION_0. The resolved behavior skips creation of the rotation property for such devices.
