UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98208: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mmc: sdiouart: fix xmitfifo leak when the port table is full sdiouartaddport() allocates the transmit fifo before claiming a slot in sdiouarttable[]. When all UARTNR slots are taken, it returns -EBUSY with the fifo still allocated, but the probe error path only kfree()s the port, leaking the transmit fifo. Free the fifo in the failure path of sdiouartaddport() itself so the function retains nothing on error.

Free the transmit FIFO in the failure path of sdio_uart_add_port() when all UART_NR slots in sdio_uart_table[] are occupied, so the function retains nothing on error.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What condition is required for the memory leak to occur?
An SDIO UART port-add attempt must occur after all UART_NR entries in the SDIO UART port table are already occupied. In that failure case, sdio_uart_add_port() returns -EBUSY after allocating the transmit FIFO.
What is leaked when the failure occurs?
The transmit FIFO allocated for the new SDIO UART port is not freed. The probe error path frees the port structure but, before the fix, did not release that FIFO allocation.
