UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98247: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability

Published Oct 6, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: hcicodec: validate vendor codec count length The Read Local Supported Codecs parsers consume the variable-sized standard codec array before parsing the vendor codec count. Although the initial reply-size check includes a vendor count byte in the fixed layout, it does not guarantee that the byte remains after the standard codec array. If a controller reply ends immediately after that array, calculating the vendor codec array size reads vndcodecs->num beyond the skb data. Use skbpulldata() to validate and consume each codec header before using its count in both command variants.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed for this issue?

The listed package families are linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, and linux-gkeop.

2

What condition triggers the out-of-bounds read?

A controller reply can end immediately after the variable-sized standard codec array, leaving no vendor codec count byte available. The parser may then read the vendor codec count beyond the skb data while calculating the vendor codec array size.

3

What does the available fix do?

The fix uses skb_pull_data() to validate and consume each codec header before using its count. It applies this validation to both Read Local Supported Codecs command variants.
