·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: btintelpcie: fix off-by-one bounds check in RX submit btintelpciesubmitrx() used frbdindex > rxq->count to guard the FRBD array access, allowing frbdindex == rxq->count to pass through and index one element past the end of the array. Change the check to >= rxq->count so every out-of-range index is rejected. This issue was reported by Claude Mythos.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?

The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, and ubuntu/linux-aws-5.0.

2

What condition leads to the out-of-bounds access?

The issue occurs when btintel_pcie_submit_rx() receives an FRBD index equal to rxq->count. The previous check rejected only values greater than the count, allowing an index one element beyond the FRBD array.

3

What does the fix change?

The bounds check is changed from rejecting frbd_index values greater than rxq->count to rejecting values greater than or equal to rxq->count. This prevents the equal-to-count index from accessing beyond the array.
