UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98319: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm: Fix drmpendingvblankevent leak in error path for outfenceptr When an outfenceptr is provided but DRMMODEPAGEFLIPEVENT is not set, a drmpendingvblankevent will be allocated. If later, there is an allocation failure or another failure at setupoutfence(), that event will not have base.fence set and it will not be released at completesignaling(). Release the event and set crtcstate->event to NULL just like in the DRMMODEPAGEFLIPEVENT case when there is a failure at drmeventreserveinit(). That is, preparesignaling() releases the event and there is nothing to be done at completesignaling(). Use drmeventcancelfree() as that will also undo drmeventreserveinit() in case it has been called.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems using the listed Ubuntu Linux kernel packages are affected by the vulnerable code path, including ubuntu/linux and the Azure, AWS FIPS, Azure FIPS, FIPS, GCP FIPS, GCP, and Oracle kernel variants. The issue is relevant to DRM page-flip operations that provide an out_fence_ptr.
What conditions are needed to trigger the leak?
An out_fence_ptr must be provided while DRM_MODE_PAGE_FLIP_EVENT is not set, causing a drm_pending_vblank_event to be allocated. A later allocation or setup_out_fence() failure must then occur before the event is correctly associated with a fence and released.
How can I tell whether the vulnerable error path was reached?
The provided information describes a kernel memory leak occurring when setup_out_fence() fails after the event allocation. It does not provide a specific log message, observable symptom, or detection command for confirming that the path has been triggered.
