UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98411: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability

Published Oct 14, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: power: sequencing: fix NULL-pointer dereference in pwrseqdeviceregister() If devsetname() fails in pwrseqdeviceregister(), we jump to the errputpwrseq label before initializing pwrseq->targets. pwrseqrelease() will try to iterate over targets unconditionally and subsequently dereference an invalid pointer. Move the call to devsetname() after the list head is initialized.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What conditions are required to trigger this issue?

The failure path is reached when dev_set_name() fails during pwrseq_device_register(). Cleanup then releases a power-sequencing object whose targets list head has not been initialized, causing a NULL-pointer dereference.

2

Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?

The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, and ubuntu/linux-aws-5.0.

3

What does the upstream fix change?

The fix initializes the targets list head before calling dev_set_name(). This ensures the release path can safely iterate over targets if naming the device fails.
