UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98498: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/mlx5: Fix reventry reference leak in mlx5tcctsharedcounterget() When the reverse entry is found but its counter is already being released, refcountincnotzero() fails and the reference taken by mlx5tcctentryget() is never dropped before falling through to createcounter. Drop it so the reverse entry is not kept alive forever by a shared counter lookup that did not use it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are in scope?
The affected software list includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What access would an attacker need to exploit this issue?
The supplied vector indicates local access, high privileges, low attack complexity, and no user interaction. It also indicates that additional attack conditions must be present.
What is the primary impact if the issue is exploited?
The vulnerability can cause a reverse connection-tracking entry to remain alive indefinitely because a reference is not dropped. The supplied vector rates the availability impact as high, with no confidentiality or integrity impact.
