UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98576: Low severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfc: llcp: fix slab-out-of-bounds reads when logging service names nfcllcpwkssap() and nfcllcpbuildsdreqtlv() pass non-null- terminated strings to prdebug() using the %s format specifier. The buffers are allocated via kmemdup() or come from netlink attributes and are not guaranteed to be null-terminated, causing dynamicprdebug() to read beyond the allocated region: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds Read in dynamicprdebug Fix both call sites by using %.s with the explicit length to limit the output to the actual length of the string.

In nfc_llcp_wks_sap() and nfc_llcp_build_sdreq_tlv(), replace pr_debug() calls that use %s with %.*s and pass the explicit string length, limiting output to the actual non-null-terminated buffer length.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger the out-of-bounds read?
The affected LLCP functions must log an NFC service name that is not null-terminated. This can occur for service-name buffers duplicated with kmemdup() or supplied through netlink attributes, because neither source guarantees a trailing null byte.
What is the practical impact of this issue?
When the vulnerable debug logging path is reached, __dynamic_pr_debug() can read beyond the service-name buffer while handling a %s format string. The reported failure is a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds read.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected by this CVE?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
