UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98890: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: libertas: reject short monitor TX frames In monitor mode, lbshardstartxmit() casts skb->data to a radiotap TX header, skips that header, and then copies the 802.11 destination address from offset 4 in the remaining frame. The generic length check only rejects zero-length and oversized skbs, so a short monitor frame can be read past the end of the skb data. Require enough bytes for the radiotap TX header and the destination address field before using the monitor-mode header layout.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The issue affects the listed Ubuntu Linux kernel packages when the Libertas Wi-Fi driver is used in monitor mode. Systems without a Libertas device/driver in monitor mode are not described as exposed by the provided information.
What does an attacker need to trigger the flaw?
An attacker needs to cause a short transmit frame to be processed through the Libertas monitor-mode transmit path. The vulnerable path reads the radiotap transmit header and destination-address field without first ensuring the frame contains enough bytes.
What condition indicates an attempted or potential trigger?
The relevant condition is a monitor-mode transmit skb that is nonzero and not oversized but is too short to contain both the required radiotap TX header and the 802.11 destination-address field. The provided data does not include specific log messages or detection indicators.
