UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98893: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: armscmi: Validate SENSORUPDATE payload size SENSORUPDATE carries one or more sensor readings after the fixed notification header. The parser derives the expected reading count from the sensor description, but it did not verify that the received payload contains those entries before parsing them. Reject truncated update notifications before reading the variable array.

In the Linux kernel arm_scmi SENSOR_UPDATE parser, validate that the received payload contains all sensor readings expected from the sensor description, and reject truncated notifications before reading the variable-length array.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp.
What condition is required to trigger the flawed parsing path?
The system must receive an SCMI SENSOR_UPDATE notification whose payload is truncated: it lacks one or more sensor-reading entries that the parser expects based on the sensor description.
