UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98898: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/pm/si: Don't schedule thermal work when queue isn't initialized When DPM is turned off with the amdgpu.dpm=0 module parameter, the thermal work queue isn't initialized so we shouldn't schedule any work on it. Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The issue applies to the listed Ubuntu kernel packages when the AMDGPU driver is in use and Dynamic Power Management is disabled with the amdgpu.dpm=0 module parameter. Systems that do not use AMDGPU, or that do not disable DPM this way, are not described as affected by the provided information.
What condition is required to trigger the problem?
AMDGPU DPM must be turned off using amdgpu.dpm=0. In that configuration, the thermal work queue is not initialized, but thermal work may be scheduled on it.
What can be done if an updated kernel cannot be installed immediately?
Avoid setting the amdgpu.dpm=0 module parameter, so that DPM remains enabled and the thermal work queue is initialized. The provided information does not identify another mitigation.
