UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98911: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dpaa2-switch: fix the error path in dpaa2switchrx() In case of an error in dpaa2switchrx(), the dpaa2switchfreefd() function is called in order to free the FD. This is incorrect since the dpaa2switchfreefd() is intended to be used on Tx frame descriptors, meaning that it expects in the software annotation area of the FD data to find a valid skb pointer on which to call devkfreeskb(). Fix this by extracting the dmaunmappage() from dpaa2switchbuildlinearskb() directly into the dpaa2switchrx() function. This allows us to directly use freepages() in case of an error before an SKB was created and kfreeskb() afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package variants are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
When does the vulnerable error path occur?
It occurs when dpaa2_switch_rx() encounters an error while receiving a frame descriptor. The faulty cleanup can happen before an SKB has been created, because the prior path used a Tx-oriented free function that expects a valid skb pointer in the descriptor annotation area.
What does the corrected cleanup behavior do differently?
The fix moves DMA page unmapping into dpaa2_switch_rx(). It uses free_pages() for errors before SKB creation and kfree_skb() after an SKB exists, rather than using dpaa2_switch_free_fd().
