UBUNTU-CVE-2026-99206: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: target: iscsi: Fix race in discovery auth updates Separate configfs opens can concurrently update the discovery AuthMethod parameter. Both callers may free the same value in iscsiupdateparamvalue(), causing a double-free. Protect the lookup and replacement with the discovery TPG access lock, as used by the other TPG configfs parameter updates.
Affected Software
Remediation
Recommended actions to resolve this vulnerability, in priority order.
- Compensating control
In iscsi_update_param_value(), protect the lookup and replacement of the discovery AuthMethod parameter with the discovery TPG access lock, preventing concurrent configfs updates from causing both callers to free the same value.

Frequently Asked Questions
What access does an attacker need to trigger this issue?
The race requires separate configfs opens that concurrently update the iSCSI discovery AuthMethod parameter. The provided information does not state how those configfs operations are exposed or what privileges are required.
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-oracle, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, and ubuntu/linux-azure-fips.
What is the effect of a successful race?
Concurrent updates can cause both callers to free the same parameter value in iscsi_update_param_value(), resulting in a double-free.
What change resolves the race?
The resolution protects lookup and replacement of the discovery AuthMethod value with the discovery TPG access lock, consistent with other TPG configfs parameter updates.
