ZDI-26-863: Quest Foglight for Databases EncryptionUtil Hardcoded Encyption Key Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability
This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on affected installations of Quest Foglight for Databases. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the symmetricDecrypt method. The issue results from the use of a hard-coded cryptographic key. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to escalate privileges and execute arbitrary code in the context of SYSTEM.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this vulnerability?
Affected Quest Foglight for Databases installations are exposed when an attacker can already execute low-privileged code locally on the target system. It is a local privilege-escalation issue, not a remote initial-access vulnerability based on the available information.
What does an attacker need to exploit it, and what is the outcome?
The attacker must first obtain the ability to run code with low privileges on the affected system. Exploitation can allow arbitrary code execution in the context of SYSTEM.
What component is involved in the flaw?
The flaw is in the symmetricDecrypt method and results from use of a hard-coded cryptographic key.
