cisco-sa-20181107-cue: Cisco Unity Express Arbitrary Command Execution Vulnerability

First published: Wed Nov 07 2018(Updated: )

A Java deserialization vulnerability in Cisco Unity Express (CUE) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary shell commands with the privileges of the root user. The vulnerability is due to insecure deserialization of user-supplied content by the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a malicious serialized Java object to the listening Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI) service. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the device with root privileges. Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
