Buffer overflow in the Window.External function in the JScript Scripting Engine in Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a malicious web page.

Remediation

  1. Remove

    Remove Internet Explorer from your environment.

    If Internet Explorer is not required, uninstall or remove it from affected systems or block its use to eliminate exposure to the vulnerable JScript Window.External functionality.

  2. Configuration

    Disable Active Scripting or otherwise disable the JScript scripting engine in Internet Explorer to prevent execution of malicious Window.External calls (use browser security settings or enterprise policy controls).
